Go fly a kite

As if Transportation Day wasn’t enough to make this day special, after our picnic lunch we flew our homemade kites.  The children had a lot of fun and for the most part the kites flew pretty well.

Transportation Day

Transportation day is one of my favorite days.  We had so much fun looking at, and climbing on, so many different forms of transportation (even more than are in the pictures)! Ms. Heather, Ms. Angie, and I all got to go up in the bucket truck and for some reason the class favorite was the very large, empty moving van!  It was a beautiful day and the popsicle from Blue Bell was the perfect treat!

Full of hot air!

We made our own wind and experimented to see if just blowing on our hands made a stronger wind or if it was stronger when we blew with a straw.  Then we tried to see if we could keep a piece of tissue paper in the air with our own wind.  We then saw how the force of the wind, from a fan, could keep a balloon in the air.  We also made a tornado tube so we could see the funnel shape of a tornado.  We discussed how we can use our senses to explain the effects of wind, and how wind can be helpful or very dangerous.

St. Patrick's Day Fun

St. Patrick's Day was a lot of fun.  We found shamrocks, got a visit from that tricky leprechaun, and ate bagels with green cream cheese!  Even though we didn't find a pot of gold we still felt lucky to have such a fun day!

making butter

After our dairy trip we extended our lesson on dairy products by using heavy whipping cream and a WHOLE LOT of shaking.  We then tried our butter on salted and unsalted crackers and decided we liked it best on the salted cracker.

Dairy Farm

Wednesday we had a fabulous time at the Westbrook Dairy Farm.  When we got there they took us on a hay ride, so we could see all of the cows, the barns and pastures.  Then we got to climb in really, really big tractors.  We also got to watch some cows being hooked up to milking machines and how the milk is transported off the farm.  Everyone also got to feed a calf, which was a trip highlight!  Then we had a picnic lunch complete with 3 different dairy products: milk, cheese and ice cream!  What a fun trip.

Kaytlyn is 6!

Happy Birthday, Kaytlyn.

Can-O-Worms

We are now worm farmers!  Our class is heading up the Can-O-Worms compost project.  Tuesday we had 1,000 worms delivered.  Before they arrived we collected the leftover apple scraps and cores, from our wing, and soaked the bedding to prepare it.

Garrison Pilcher Trip

As a way to help the children make a smooth transition to Garrion Pilcher, next year, we went for our first trip over there.  Today’s trip was to meet our 1st grade buddy class and get our children to experience their lunchroom.  Our students were able to go through their lunch line and see what the inside of the lunchroom looks like, but then we got a special treat and went out into the court yard for a picnic with our new friends.  After lunch we played on their super fun playground.  All of our children had fun and are excited to go back for our second visit at the end of March.

Cat in the Hat

We couldn't let Dr. Seuss' birthday pass without celebrating one of his most favorite characters, the Cat in the Hat.  We made our own hats and then made our own edible cats!

March Moms

Thank you to all of the moms and grandmothers who read us books!

Wacky Wednesday

Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss!  We loved celebrating your birthday by reading LOTS of your books, including Wacky Wednesday and we even dressed wacky and did wacky things, like eat at a different class' lunch table while eating green eggs and ham!
