Last week, the standards in Social Studies focused on the difference between goods and services. As our culminating lesson the 3 kindergarten classes, on our hallway, had 2 guest speakers. Ruby Moore came and talked about the services provided at Thomas County Federal and Marty Lutes talked about the goods he makes at Allgood Printing.
Another standard that went along with these lessons was that people work to earn an income. The students all gave me their future careers and how much they would make. This week, to tie that standard into the standard about President’s Day, I asked them to tell me how much the President made. Our range was all over the board from $12,000 to $150,000 and even an answer of $1 billion. Then we looked up the real salary which is $400,000/yr. I then told the students they may want to change their minds from the jobs they wanted last week to becoming the future president!
